These changes come from the fact that dry cleaners are one of the largest users of chlorinated solvents and unlike other users of similar products are located mostly in residential communities. 85% of dry cleaners use the toxic solvent perc. This solvent has been linked to numerous health and environmental problems. The wet cleaning process was first developed in Germany in the early 1990's and was introduced in the USA several years later.
